School Council

In order to promote the positive ethos at St Michael's we try to encourage an atmosphere of openness with the pupils and develop and encourage mutual respect.

The school council is a platform for the pupils to voice opinions and work with the Head Teacher on any matters of concern. The School Council gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and be part of the whole school community. It usually meets once a month to talk about school and how we can make it better.

School councillors require certain skills such as the ability to be a good listener, to be able to empathaise with othes and be a good role model. They are voted for by their peirs, each class nominates two pupils to represent them and these children have the responsibility to raise issues from their class at meetings and then to feedback to their Class afterwards. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to really make a difference to the family at St Michaels - as well as an opportunity to boost their self confidence and communication skills.

Our school council are regularly involved organising and running events in school such as selling raffle tickets, cake sales for fundraising events and giving school tours to important visitors. To help visitors and all members of the St Michael's family recognise our school councillors, who also act as school buddies, each councillor recieves a red fleece to wear in school and a backpack to take their books home in. This is a position of great responsibility at school and all our couincillors love their job and take it very seriously.
